We are currently looking for a senior underwriting officer to build our professional liability underwriting platform in Canada.  This is an excellent opportunity to start a new venture in a changing market that is seeking stability.

The proposed classes of business will consist of the following professional services firms:

    • Lawyers- Excess
    • Insurance Agents
    • Architects & Engineers/Design Professionals
    • Accountants
    • Miscellaneous Professional

  • Responsible for the P&L for the professional liability business in Canada including the establishment of the strategic plan and product launch for this business. 
  • Oversees the development and execution of broker action plans to support the acquisition of profitable PL business.
  • Identifies opportunities to develop both individual risk opportunities as well as potential programs in the Canadian market.
  • Ensures that this book of business meets all budget and performance targets.
  • As the business needs warrant, successfully recruit staff to support the build out and servicing of the underwriting platform.
  • Has accountability for the risk selection / rejection, pricing, retention, growth and profitability (within scope of authority and per divisional objectives).
  • Oversees receipt and analysis of submissions and decisions of what terms to offer (policy limits, credit limits, deductibles, coverage options and conditions, etc.).
  • Ensures business is priced in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with brokers and agents by providing excellent customer service in order to attract and retain profitable business.
  • Develops and monitors reports on service levels, activity and customer experience. 
  • Works with other functional units within the division to identify goals and strategies to optimize customer service and satisfaction.
  • Administers, applies and may update underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
  • Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports to communicate this information.
  • Ensures the appropriate utilization of underwriting and desktop systems.
  • Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and may initiates appropriate loss prevention actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
