The Senior Director of Business Operations reports directly to Sarasota Art Museum’s (SAM) Executive Director; and is a key member of SAM’s Senior Leadership team within Ringling College of Art and Design. The Senior Director of Business Operations ensures appropriate oversight of all Sarasota Art Museum operations, including budgeting and financial controls.   The Director oversees operations and works collaboratively with other SAM leadership and staff members to develop and implement strategic plans and ensure the smooth running of the organization which includes a robust education arm, comprised of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of Ringling College (OLLI) and studio and digital art programs.

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, this position has authority over operations of the Sarasota Art Museum including budget management, contract vendor oversight, revenue generating programs including the Museum Store, museum-wide policy setting, and long-range strategic financial planning for the organization. 

The successful incumbent will have the ability to ensure financial/administrative compliance with Ringling College policies and procedures.  The Senior Director will have demonstrated success in the responsible stewardship of gifts and sponsored awards; and will work in concert with Ringling College departments to ensure effective coordination and implementation of shared services that support Museum Campus operations including Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities, Public Safety, Business Affairs.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the job:

• Expert level proficiency in budgeting, financial reporting and administration of grants and contracts.
• Significant team-building and supervisory experience in non-profit environment, preferably working within dynamic cultural organizations.
• Knowledge of and experience with not for profit accounting and finance, operations, facilities, earned revenue divisions, and not for profit policy compliance issues.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies.
• Strong work ethic, and superior record of ethical service.
• Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent communicator with experience in financial reporting and presentation, project management, and organizational skills.
• Experience developing business processes and best practices for implementation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (can perform complex functions in Excel), Google Collaboration tools or related software.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Management, or museum-related field.
• Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience at a senior level covering a broad range of financial and administrative activities that include strategic financial planning, budget oversight, and grant/gift administration.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong interest in museums.
• Master’s degree in business administration or other relevant degree.

• Demonstrated experience in working with earned income streams.

• Excellent writing skills, strong organizational and managerial capabilities.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including advanced expertise with excel and enterprise business intelligence platforms.

• Experience in a cultural organization (museum, garden, zoo, etc.).
